Trying to land the job of your dreams can be stressful and trying, as you know that you will only get that one chance to impress them during the first interview, and you will want to make sure you do the best you can. One of the big mistakes many people make when going into the first interview is that they go in with their fingers crossed, hoping that things will go well, but doing nothing to prepare and make sure they know how to make things go well!
Of course, one big aspect of doing well in an interview is to know what to expect, and therefore being prepared to field the questions that you are most likely to be asked. Proving to the interviewer that you are the right person for the job, however, is another big part of succeeding in the interview process, and this cannot be done by simply knowing what to say to the standard questions; in order to prove to them that you are the right person for the job, you need to figure out exactly what they want!
During the interview, there will be two different times when you have the control of the conversation on your side of the interview desk - the first time will be at the beginning of the interview, as you start to “chat” with them, and the second time will be at the end – and it will be during these times that you can get a feel for what they are looking for in an employee. Instead of making pointless chitchat with the interviewer during these times, use this time to ask pointed questions that will indicate to you not only a general idea of what they are looking for in a new hire, but the specifics of what they want; once you have gathered this information, you will be able to effectively convey to the interviewer that you are all the things they are looking for – and in this way, you will be in great shape to land that job!
